How log does it take for a refunded game to be removed from your list of games?

by supercow_. Posted on May 16, 2020

Stellaris is on sale right now. There is a good bundle deal (that includes the base game) I wanted to buy. I accidentally bought just the base game (it was already my cart and I was in a hurry :/). Since I owned the base game I was ineligible to purchase the bundle. So, I returned the base game so that I could buy the bundle. However, the base game is still in my account and thus preventing me from buying the bundle. I read to receive the refund (money) can take 7+ days and that is fine, but I want the game off my account so I can get the bundle since I think the sale is only for a few more days!

Does anyone know why Bethesda made Skyrim hidden on Steam?

by MK_fan_835. Posted on May 16, 2020

While looking for Skyrim on Steam I noticed it wasn't showing up when I searched it (I didnt put it on ignore) and the only way i got to the store page was through the sound track. On the store page it said the game was hidden at the request of the publisher. Anybody know why they would hide their (probably) most beloved game.

[NSFW] Message help: Friend and I had our accounts send each other explicit messages without either of us doing the messaging

by HippieGhost. Posted on May 16, 2020

Hi reddit, so this is weird:

I was in a party on xbox one with a friend of mine, and I got a notification that I got a message from her, before I can check it, she starts freaking out going "HippieGhost, what did you just send me?!"

Confused, I go to look, and there's a message from her asking me to send her a dick pick, and a response from my account that was telling her just how eager I was to send one. We were both talking via voice when it happened and I know for a fact that neither of us sent either message. It was like we were getting a glimpse of two people sexting through our accounts.

Since then, we've both changed our passwords, activated two-factor verification, and checked account history. No successful sign-ins that weren't recognized, but we saw plenty of unsuccessful sign-ins from china.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Elite 2 Controller sold out

by BeefySwoleSauce. Posted on May 16, 2020

Does anybody know of a way to sign up for an alert of sorts, for when they are restocked/available for purchase again...?

I’d assume COVID has something to do with production, which is fine, I’m not in a rush... but didn’t know if there might be a way to sign up for a notification email or something when it’s available for purchase again?

It’s sold out at all the local retailers, and has been for a little while before COVID even... so I checked the Microsoft store assuming they’d surely have some... and I was wrong.

Thanks in advance for any help/info that can be provided. (If any, might just be wishful thinking)

Any information would be appreciated

Game sharing but my the Gold doesn't work?

by Nostalgicle. Posted on May 16, 2020

I don't know what has been happening to my Xbox, but every time I try to play multiplayer or Invite someone to a party it says I need "Gold". Now before you do anything to help, just listen please. My friend has Xbox live Gold and I am currently game sharing with him, I have my Xbox set as his Home Xbox and the same thing goes with him. He owns gold but I can't play any games, so I asked him if I could try a game on his account. Xbox simply won't let him play multiplayer, but it will let him on his console. And he is the only person who has Gold on the console. It tried to ask him to purchase Gold but it won't show the Purchase Gold screen cause it knows he owns Gold but it asked me to purchase it. So it's good to know that his account can't play multiplayer and I can't do the same even though he "OWNS" Gold and my Xbox is set as his Home Xbox, can anyone please explain or Help?

Is there a way to make the "Play Next" shelf a bit smarter?

by ThereIsNoGame. Posted on May 16, 2020

I think it's a good concept for a feature for the library, but as it is today, it's not very smart. It's suggesting I "play next" a game that I played for a couple of hours, determined it was terrible, uninstalled with extreme prejudice, and wrote a negative review for.

Why would it try to tell me that I would probably like a game I deliberately uninstalled and wrote a negative review for? "Oh, the guy doesn't like this game at all? Let's suggest he plays it some more!"

Are there any features to customize this new shelf?

Is this a feature on Puck??

by V1shUP. Posted on May 16, 2020

I noticed something while using 'Phase Shift' on Puck.

If you use that spell and look a bit closer, you can tell which direction is Puck facing. This can be a really useful tip for Puck w. Blink Dagger. Sometimes, in the hassle of a fight, you just use Phase Shift and want to get out with a dagger. If you don't dagger in the direction of facing while in Phase Shift you can get caught. I think 'Phase Shift + Dagger Out' is known to many people and this can be helpful.

Looking for A Stack (Ranked)

by LegionnaireAlpha. Posted on May 16, 2020

Hi,

I'm an Ancient 1/2 player looking for 1 or 2 players that are also roughy the same skill to gain. A 3 stack is preferred but not closed off for just a two stack. Solo ranked is too dangerous.

I'm a strictly pos3 and I play in AUS servers.

PM me if you are interested.

Good day to all.

Dev here, can we please stop saying "the devs"?

by Kamelnotllama. Posted on May 16, 2020

> Edit: Sorry, didn't mean to crit you all with a wall of text. Adding suggested tl;dr

tl;dr: the artists and programmers don't fuck stuff up, executives do.

Bear with me, this honestly isn't a rant so much as it is a plea for help. Please consider reading, I think you may find this interesting.

I'll preface this by saying I'm not a game developer, but a developer none the less. Something I see constantly thrown around in PC gaming is the ambiguous catch-all term "the devs" referencing people making games. Using this term isn't a new trend by any means, but recently I seem to have noticed the way people are using it indicates there are some incorrect assumptions about how software delivery actually works. The purpose of this post is to set the record straight, and hopefully attempt redirecting focus back where it should be.

In the past, this catch-all term didn't bother me because often times the developers (or singular developer in many cases) are actually also the people making the choices about the game. It was a good enough approximation. I now realize that's just not true in some really important cases.

Basically, any time I see "the devs" mentioned these days it's something to the effect of "This used to be in the game but the devs tool it out". Forgive the lack of a good analogy here, but that's a bit like saying "I used to have a tumor, but the scalpel took it out". In this context, it's really silly to those of us educated to believe it was the scalpel that took out the tumor, surely you realize it was the surgeon. Then when you think a moment longer, you realize the surgeon took his orders from the doctor who diagnosed it. You see, there is a full chain of command in play and the scalpel just happens to be the last link of that chain.

So, I've thought this through and what I propose we do is pivot away from saying "the devs" and towards saying "the owners". Why? Is this just a petty thing? I would argue that it isn't, allow me to explain.

First and foremost, when the owners happen to also be the developers, it's still accurate to refer to them as the owners - so this works in all cases not just some. Second, and herein lies the rub, as a developer I've been asked to do many things I disagreed with. Sure, I can give push back and say "I think we should do this" but when it comes right down to it, I have a job and I do as I'm told. If it were up to me, the products I've delivered would look very different - and I would argue better - but who's to say? The point is, it is the owners' choices, and the owners should be the ones who get the blame.

As an open source software enthusiast, when I'm forced to use a closed source database that costs the wage of another entire employee and doesn't even work as well as open source options, it makes me furious if I'm honest. I'm a professional though, and I'm on a team of other professionals. I have to understand that at the end of the day that's probably the best choice for the project because that's the common tool all the devs already know. As much as I disagree with the notion and hate admitting it, it does just make good business sense. I'll be honest... if someone were to look at my software and say "oh man, the devs didn't use the right tech stack" I would be furious.

I admire game devs for their ability to mostly remain silent about the inherently controversial matters of the gaming world. From anti-cheating techniques, to DRM schemes, to behind the scenes matchmaking algorithms, it's not an easy place for them to be in. As someone who isn't caught up in that particular world, I can say that the reason they are silent is because - again - they are professionals. Secondly, people who aren't developers usually get technical details so wrong we devs tend to dismiss their opinions all together if I'm being frank. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, why would any of them speak up risking their job in such a fiercely competitive job market?

At the end of the day, the decisions for the things we care most about - anti-cheating, DRM, platform support, cross platform play support... none of these decisions are made by the devs. They are made behind closed doors as business decisions, probably involving copious amounts of money and strategic initiatives/partnerships from multiple groups. Tech companies know exactly what they're doing when they make these choices, so don't direct your anger at the devs or expect the devs to make decisions like these.

I hope the reason I'm posting this has been made clear and you agree. I'm genuinely curious from the perspective of a game dev if any are around... do you agree with my sentiments? Anything to add?
