Is Steam falling behind?

I love this Service. I know people who have been using it since the beginning and it’s concept of using one service to store one’s game library is awesome and clearly revolutionary. But times have changed, Ive seen different platforms, such as Epic Games, trying to at least take over the market. Don’t get me wrong, I love Steam, I am a loyal supporter of this great Service... but Steam should really get an overhaul. I’d hate to have to be put in a position on which the PC game market is divided like consoles are at the moment, with little to no cross play. But at least PC and the Mac is some what uniform and that is if you have a friend that has different specs, you still have windows or Mac and steam and just join their game. I don’t really know if my argument is understood, but I just feel the hype behind Steam is lagging and it’s features just seem out of date. There are some features that should desperately need updating, like the app, it’s feels too 2010, but it’s 2020...

Steam's features are out of date how? It has more features than any other alternative too. And it supports cross play, so I don't know what you're talking about. It's up to individual developers/publishers to work that out. If they don't, that's their fault, not Valves. Valve as far as I know has never pulled a Sony or Microsoft and turned down cross play. (MS did during the 360 era, which is why FFXIV never came to it, SE was able to get an exception for XI they weren't afforded by the time XIV released. Also why many MMOs were cancelled on 360 - Sony recently obviously)

Anything that should be changed specifically?
