It's been 18 years. What did I miss?

by Hirsute_Kong. Posted on Aug 02, 2020    0    28

My PC isn't top notch but it'll work for what I want out of PC gaming right now....I think. My nearest future goal is to be able to play Cyberpunk 2077. I bought a PC locally with the following specs.

  • Win10 Pro
  • Ryzen 7 2700
  • Nvidia GTX 1060 Ti 1660 Ti
  • 64 GB RAM
  • 1 TB SSD
  • ROG Strix B450-F mobo

Here's a picture of the games I've collected over the years because sales happened. I started playing Crysis 2 and I'm enjoying that. There's already a post about the last 3 years, so that covers the recent AAA titles I should be checking out. What about the other past great games?

I stopped playing at Medal of Honor Allied Assault. I enjoy FPS and want to get good at them on PC again, single and multiplayer. I enjoy just about every other game type except I get bored with simulators. I am also really interested in games that can't be easily played on console because there's so many less buttons/keys or there's lot of sub-menus that makes console play very tedious. What do you got?

Edit: GPU

Really solid PC, to be honest. Valorant is pretty hot right now and fits the criteria of games that don’t really work on console. Counter-Strike Global Offensive too of course; both free to play. Are you into any MMOs? The MMO space is kind of barren right now. WoW is still probably the biggest. I’ve noticed The Elder Scrolls Online gaining a lot more traction lately.

Thanks. I was happy to play around with Crysis 2 graphics. Looks pretty nice on my 4k TV (no monitor yet). Seems the PC is gonna do fine for me.

MMO I played Destiny 1 & 2, Elder Scrolls Tamriel, Division 1 & 2 all on Xbox. I enjoy MMO. I tried to get into Elite Dangerous. I'm the kind of person that wants to enjoy something like that or EVE but don't have the time to immerse in the universe.

Edit: I forgot about CS:GO. I probably won't last long but I'm down with giving people something to aim at.

Did you mean 1660 ti?

  Hirsute_Kong 1

No, of course not. I definitely did not make a mistake. /s

You know, with CDPR optimizing the game to play on OG PS4 and XBox One, you should be able to get a decent framerate out of your rig.

  Hirsute_Kong 1

Nice. I'll look into that.

Are you using the PC for something else then gaming? 64g of Ram make absolutly no sense if you are only focusing on gaming, 32 would still be overkill but 64 is just burning money with 0 benefit. I am running a high end PC with 16 G of ram and never needed more then that. If possible I strongly recomend you to sell at least half of your ram and spend it in something else maybe upgrading your GPU to an RTX to make sure you have a great experience playing CP. :)

  Hirsute_Kong 1

Since before I bought the PC I was planning on selling two sticks which would leave me with 32GB. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I've also been contemplating upgrading from the 1660Ti to a 2070S. I haven't decided yet if I want to spend that money though. So far, nothing is giving me issue but I haven't tried any new AAA yet either. I still need to get a proper mouse, keyboard and monitor. Someday....

fernandollb 1

I am guessing that you bought the PC already built by someone else which makes it even weirder that they would sell you that quantity of RAM for a gaming PC. Even if you are not going to spend it on more hardware sell those two sticks, trust me they will be sitting there in your computer with absolutely no use (I am talking not even one more FPS) and save the money for whatever you like to spend it.
Only keep it if you are thinking on becoming a content creator editing 8k videos all they long.

  Hirsute_Kong 1

I agree. It's a way to get some of money back though. I remember why I didn't sell the sticks right away. I was going to assess whether they would be good to keep and put into my HTPC. I'll be trying to get that back to the top of my to-do list.

Half Life: Alyx (a must have)

  Hirsute_Kong 1

I really want to play this but I don't think I'll be investing into VR. I played a Star Wars game in VR at my friend's house and it was very cool but gave me a headache.

VR_Now 1

Also let me add this for a first time VR gamer, it is not so good to play a fast paced game as one of the first games to be played. Simply, it seems that game was a wrong choice for a first time VR gamer.

  Hirsute_Kong 1

I'll keep that all in mind. I don't think I'll be spending the money on VR right now, but you've got me keeping it on the table as an option though. Thank you!

VR_Now 1

You are very welcome.

Take care and happy PC Gaming! 😊

You know the best, but just let me tell you that there are many game types and comfort levels, and in many games comfort levels and locomotion styles are all configurable.

I do not know what Star Wars game you tried (i guess you tried a free Star Wars game). But i just mean that do not let that one experience to create a bias on you. Whereas I am glad to hear that you still found it cool.

Just read about Half Life: Alyx, it is just unbelievably amazing and beautiful game. And this game has great comfort customizations. Please read below game comfort explanation.

As i said, you know the best what is suitable for you. And take my words as a friendly advice. 😊

Comfort is a big concern for Valve, and it shows. Alyx is littered with different options to accommodate as many people as possible. You can choose between a traditional “Blink” teleport, a “Shift” where the camera dashes to the next point, or “Continuous” aka smooth locomotion directed either by your head or hand. Each of these options can be further tuned to your preferences. The game even has a one-handed option mode. Whatever comfort or space concerns you have, chances are Half-Life: Alyx has an option for you.

>All of the Batman: Arkham games except Origins

Really? I'm playing through Origins and the story seems pretty good. But the boss battles suck.

But, I really like Black Mask and feel he never got the attention he deserves until Origins and Birds of Prey.

  Hirsute_Kong 1

I loved the original Serious Sam. Definitely going to check out the others. Warhammer 40k has piqued my interest. Cities: Sklines... I tried that on Xbox Game Pass and man that is definitely not a console game. I'm not sure if I'm still into that stuff but I do want to give it a shot. There's a few here I haven't heard of, so I'll check them out too. Thank you!

since your (sort of) new, heres some advice:

on pc theirs multiple stores you can buy games from. there's also different launchers. some stores are also a launcher. steam is both a store and a launcher. the best launcher as far as features go is steam. gog is also very good as it is drm free, which is a very good thing. the worst, by far, is epic games store. the ONLY good thing about epic is they give out free games. id make an account just to take the free games, but id NEVER buy from them, at least until they fix there launcher and add in all the features its missing

there are many scam site, but sites found on /r/GameDeals and are legit. just check what launcher your key is for

also, here are some good addons for you web browser

also, here are some good games to start you off that are only on PC or significantly better on PC:

minecraft java edition(NOT bedrock and not windows 10 edition)

doom 2016

divinity original sin 2

rust(but only if you have at least 3 other firends to play with)

portal 1/2

a hat in time

  Hirsute_Kong 2

Thanks for the info with the stores, launchers and addons. Very helpful. I wouldn't have thought to go looking for those browser addons. Terraria! I tried this on Xbox and during the instructional I thought that game would be much better on a PC. I'll be adding that one because it seemed like something I would enjoy. I'll check out A Hat in Time since I've never heard of it. Thank you for the great info and list!

-SammyP6- 1

np. enjoy your new pc

terraria is a lot better on pc because it gets updates a lot sooner(seems to average 2 years sooner), has better controls, and has modding support

a hat in time is a 3d platformer. sort of like mario odyssey. its a lot better on pc because pc lets you play user created levels, meaning the game has pretty much infinite content. obviously loads of the user created levels arent super high quality, but some are

  Hirsute_Kong 1

How could I forget mods? There's been some pretty awesome stuff done with mods.

A Hat in Time looks fun. Something I can with the kids too. Thanks!

-SammyP6- 1

just be aware, a hat in time is rated T for teen

  Hirsute_Kong 1

Good catch!
